Nominated album of the year 2020 at the DMA Roots awards, Heading Out combines new compositions with old tunes, blending Inver’s many influences. The soaring sounds of fiddle and whistles nod respect to Celtic traditions, whilst the driving guitar and accordion bring a “contemporary colour” (Rootszone, DK) and “each set a personality in its own right” (Living Tradition, UK).
“Irresistibly elegant waltz sets” meet intriguing arrangements of jigs, reels and polkas, “crisply delivered…[with] precision and power” (Songlines, UK). Lees’ gentle gem, The Simple Things, and Barslund’s Vals til mor og far inspire thoughtful optimism, whilst Jones’ award-nominated Crack On demonstrates arrangement ideas which “skillfully interweave… [and] fit together fantastically” (Music Frames, NL).
